The maintenance question for an na zewnątrz wyświetlacz LED is not “which one is better” — it is “which way can a technician physically reach the modules when one fails.” The answer is decided by how the screen is mounted. Here is how to match front service versus rear access to wall-mounted, free-standing and pole-mounted installations, before you commit to a cabinet.

Na wynos
  • Front service and rear access are not “better” or “worse” — the right choice is set by your mounting geometry, not by preference.
  • Flush wall mounting forces front service; you physically cannot reach the back once it is bolted on.
  • Free-standing and pole-mounted screens can use rear access, which keeps the front face clean and reduces exposed seams.
  • For outdoor, the maintenance face must also be the weatherproofed face — a rear-access cabinet still needs a serviceable IP-rated rear door.

01 — The Real Question

Maintenance Is About Reach, Not Preference

Ask a salesperson “should I buy front service or rear access?” and you will often get whichever answer suits the cabinet they stock. The honest question is simpler and more concrete: when a single module fails in year three, how does a technician get to it?

The answer is decided before you order anything. It depends on where the screen sits and what is behind it. A screen bolted flat against a concrete wall leaves no room to work from behind — that forces front service, whether you planned for it or not. A screen on its own steel structure in an open plaza leaves the back fully reachable, so rear access becomes the natural choice.

Choose the service type that matches the reach the site gives you. The mounting geometry decides the maintenance method — never the other way around.

02 — The Two Modes

Front Service vs Rear Access, in Plain Terms

Obsługa frontowa Dostęp tylny
Jak to działa Each module is pulled from the front, often magnetically or with a quick-release, without touching the structure behind. The technician opens a rear door and pulls modules or accesses the power/data bus from the back.
Najlepszy dla Flush wall mounts, thin facade installations, screens with no rear clearance. Free-standing structures, pole mounts, screens with a walkway or clearance behind.
Kompromis Front face has more module seams; each service action touches the weatherproof face. Needs physical space behind the screen — which a flush wall mount does not have.
Outdoor caveat Modules must re-seal cleanly on the front to hold IP rating after each swap. The rear door itself must carry an IP-rated gasket — rear access is not an excuse for a weatherproofing gap.
Outdoor vs Indoor (the difference that matters)

The indoor version of this question is about cabinet weight and install speed. Outdoors, it is about weatherproofing the face you service. A front-service outdoor module must re-seal cleanly after every swap, and a rear-access cabinet must seal its rear door — the IP rating has to survive maintenance, not just factory testing.

03 — The Decision Table

Three Mounting Scenarios, Three Clear Answers

Outdoor LED installations split into three mounting patterns. Each one decides the service type for you.

Naścienny
Flush or Near-Flush to a Wall

The back is against the building, so there is no reachable rear. Front service is mandatory. This is the standard for building facades and shopfront billboards, where the screen is bolted onto the structure with minimal stand-off.

Wolnostojący
On Its Own Steel Structure

The screen stands on a frame in an open site, leaving the back clear. Rear access is the natural choice — the front stays clean and modules are reached from a walkway or ladder behind.

Montaż na słupie
Roadside Pylon / Billboard Pole

Access depends on the pole design. A dual-face pylon usually forces obsługa frontowa; a single-face with rear platform allows dostęp tylny. Confirm reach before choosing.

Wall-mounted → front service. Free-standing → rear access. Pole-mounted → depends on the pylon. Match the service mode to the mounting, and the cabinet decision is already made.

04 — The Outdoor Catch

The Weatherproofing Has to Survive Maintenance

Here is the part indoor guides skip: outdoor maintenance is not just about reach — it is about re-sealing. A screen is only IP65 if it stays IP65 after a technician has been inside it.

  • Front service outdoors means each module has to seat back with a clean gasket seal on the front face. If the gasket is compressed unevenly or debris gets trapped, that one module becomes the entry point for rain.
  • Rear access outdoors means the rear door carries an IP-rated gasket that must close flush every time. A warped or rushed-shut door compromises the whole cabinet.
  • Both faces need IP65 — not IP65 front and IP40 rear. A rear that is not weatherproofed will collect moisture from the inside out in humid or coastal air, even if it never sees direct rain.

For the full breakdown of what IP65 actually tests and does not test — and why front and rear both matter — read our IP rating guide.

05 — Make the Call

A Three-Question Check Before You Commit

  1. Is there walkable space behind the screen?
Yes → rear access is on the table. No → front service, no question.
  2. Can the back be reached without a lift or scaffolding every service call?
If rear access needs a crane each time, the labour cost erases its advantage — reconsider front service.
  3. Does the serviced face re-seal to hold IP65 after every visit?
Whatever you pick, confirm the gasket and door design before ordering. The rating must survive maintenance.

Once you know the mounting, the service mode picks itself. Then the real decision becomes which cabinet delivers that mode with a weatherproofed service face — which is where the spec sheet, not the sales pitch, matters.

06 — Next Step

Tell Us the Mount, We’ll Confirm the Cabinet

Tell us how and where the screen mounts, and an engineer confirms the correct service type and the matching Square 960 or Square 1000 cabinet — including the IP-rated service face, so the rating holds up in the field, not just on the datasheet.

  • Mounting type (wall / free-standing / pole)
  • Clearance behind the screen, if any
  • Approximate size and pitch

FAQ

Front service means each module is pulled from the front, typically with a quick-release, so the technician never needs to reach behind the screen. Rear access means the technician opens a rear door and reaches modules or the power/data bus from the back. The right choice is decided by mounting geometry, not by preference.

Match it to the mounting. A screen flush against a wall forces front service because there is no reachable rear. A screen on its own steel structure in an open site naturally suits rear access, keeping the front clean. A pole-mounted screen depends on the pylon design.

Front service is mandatory for flush or near-flush wall mounting, where the back is against the building and cannot be reached. It is also standard for building facades and shopfront billboards bolted onto the structure with minimal stand-off.

Rear access is the natural choice for free-standing screens on their own structure, where the back is fully clear and modules can be reached from a walkway or ladder. It keeps the front face clean and reduces exposed seams.

Not if the cabinet is designed for it. Each front-service module must re-seat with a clean gasket seal so the IP rating holds after every swap. The risk is debris trapped or a gasket compressed unevenly, which lets rain in at that one module.

Yes. A screen with IP65 on the front but a non-weatherproofed rear will collect moisture from the inside out in humid or coastal air. For rear-access cabinets, the rear door itself must carry an IP-rated gasket that closes flush every time.

Ask three questions: is there walkable space behind the screen, can the back be reached without a crane each service call, and does the serviced face re-seal to hold IP65 after every visit. If the back is unreachable or needs a lift each time, front service is the answer.
